Why I love Overhaulin'

The show is simple and wholesome, the crew is dedicated and they have their hearts in it.  Their passion to work on a car that has sentimental value to each guest on the show drives it home everytime.  Then to see the emotion of the guest and all who were involved, it makes you feel right at home with them, that is the greatest.  I love Chips Foose's work, I love the effort of all the team, I love the pranks, and I love the outcome virtually everytime.  Thank you TLC for making one of the greatest shows on television.

Anyone else?

Re: Why I love Overhaulin'

The show is just like every other show. To much BS drama.
I watched it the other day when they overhauled that girl's comet. They do great work on the cars, but they say that their under a time crunch and don't show how they do all the different custom work. Instead they'll  show about 30 min of each show to just how their pranking the people.
Its definitly not the best car show. If they would just cut all the BS and show more of the work being done to help teach people on how to Overhaul a car themselves, then it might be the best show out there.

Re: Why I love Overhaulin'

Good point.  I still like the sentimental value of the show and most of the pranks.  But, it would be very cool to see more hands on with the cars and having the crew teach/show you how they do some of the stuff.  Still, the crunch time happens because all they have is a week to get it done.  I think for family value, it's close to being the best car show.

The only credit I will give this show was probably the first few episodes but as it went along, you can tell how scripted the show got, it was ridiculous. I wouldn't be surprised if the owner's of the vehicles that were "stolen" were actually given lines to read. 99% of the show is about pranking and going, "Haha we're belittling the owners to the point of them breaking down!" which oddly goes against whoever said this show is a family show. I guess we're teaching our kids that it's a good idea to lie to someone and that it's really funny to see them crying. 1% of the show actually shows them working on the car which is the actual interesting part of it. Like I said before, scripted.

Re: Why I love Overhaulin'

Scripted or not... the show allows people to realize that out of all the day to day crap they put up with, that something good can happen to anyone. The show gets people excited about cars and ideas for their own projects. Let people enjoy a good thing! The show's about cars for car people.

No way is the show scripted.  I'm pretty sure it's improvised on the fly.  That is why it's so thrilling to watch.

Improvised and thrilling to watch? Lol how clueless can you be. It becomes unbearable to watch when you can clearly see how scripted the show is and one big improvement they could do besides scrapping the scripts is canning that host of the show. All she does is stand around and never really helps the crew out and has a really big airhead type of attitude. At least it's not quite as bad/scripted as Powerblock. Basically a 2 hour long commercial. Please, get real auto related shows on tv and skip out on all the bs and "drama" to make good ratings and go for the more technical side to actually teach people how to customize their rides, and on a LOW BUDGET as well.

Re: Why I love Overhaulin'

Clueless?  You Sir (or madame), are erroneous.

I have followed and transcribed the show since its' meak begining.  Why come to a forum for a show only to berate it?  I've spoken to Adrienne Janic, the lady you so callously call "the host", and she is a national treasure.  I know for a fact the show is not scripted.  If they are not coming up with it on the fly, then tell me, why the ludicrous plotlines?  Why the unexplained twists?  The ones that keep me on the edge of my seat with a stitch in my side.  Personally I feel they should only concentrate on the plot and turn it into a reality sitcom to drive up ratings.  If I wanted to learn about cars I'd go down to my local garage and talk to Biff.  This is edutainment.  This folks, is where it's at.

Lol I will say it again, how clueless can you be. I come to this forum so that they can actually get a clue on how to improve the show and stop with all the bs "drama" they're trying to invent. Yes I did call her "the host" because that's exactly what she is, "a host" and nothing more. Why the ludicrous plotlines? Well you pretty much just owned yourself on that question. Why the unexplained twists that keep you on the edge of your seat? Give me a break. You must be entertained really easily if this show keeps you on the edge of your seat. This folks, is not where it's at. Going outside and learning for yourself and talking to actual fabricators is where it's at.

When my husband's 76 Chevy Van was being Overhauled, my sister give me the great idea of writing down day-to-day events that transpired BEFORE my husband actually saw the van on Overhaulin.  Believe me, it was no way scripted.  If you would like to read the exciting adventure my family and I took just let me know and I will e-mail you the details.

Re: Why I love Overhaulin'

I've seen a couple of Overhaulin' related items on eBay recently that claim the show has been cancelled. Does anyone know if this is true or are these eBay sellers just trying to sway a potential buyer by making this type of claim? I've seen nothing about this anywhere else on the net.

Re: Why I love Overhaulin'

i do wish that they would cover more about mods done to the cars but as for as tv car shows,it's by far the best.it's not so commercialized as the spike tv shows and i cannot stand the shows where it's all about people yelling and complaining about each other like american hot rod.

Re: Why I love Overhaulin'

I really loved the show.

Chip is an amazing designer and he always has great visions of how cars should look like as soon as they come in. As an artist myself... I appreciate that first of all.

The next thing I like was the fact that the crew always gave the cars the best they had to offer. Nothing was second rate... and you could really see that quality feel in their work.... it happens when u let professionals be professionals and do what they do best.

Re: Why I love Overhaulin'

The show is all about show casing what each and every person can do and offer, to show off their individual and particular talent, Chip for instance.
What he has is amazing, he has quite literally a god given talent for design otherwise he would not have been entered into the Hot Rod hall of fame would he!!
I agree that some shows appear to be scripted, there is no way any person would act like that (I'm a Police officer, trust me they don’t!) after finding out their vehicle had been stolen.
Some appear quite genuine and honestly and truly moved because they have been given something they have always dreamed of.
The show is entertaining, it is down to the individual to make up their own mind if they like it, it certainly does not teach children how to lie or cheat.
I believe the show should be taken for what it is and that is what I have already said it is a SHOW CASE for people’s talents.
The show has become a success and that is quite honestly annoying people. I'm sure that if a person with the necessary skills that were used within a show and for that matter host one, they  would act and talk and quite honestly big them selves up just like they all do and quite rightly so.
Every person appearing on the shows works very hard, this is very apparent by the build quality at the end. We have all heard of Charley Hutton, we have all seen his work on another show, we all know how hard he works and someone like that is genuinely honest and kind.
Keep it up, it's not to every bodies taste or liking but that's up to the individual isn't it?

Cheers

Welcome to the forum Randall.  Thanks for the thoughts on the show.

Also, we appreciate you being a police officer.  That along with our armed forces, is something I know I greatly respect.

Re: Why I love Overhaulin'

Hi, first post, just had to comment on this thread. This show is slightly scripted, the people sign papers and agree to terms, agree to go along with the "pranks", etc. a few weeks in advance. because they are the legal owners of the cars, the overhaulin staff cannot just take a car and start tearing it apart, legally. I personaly know the father of one person that was on the show and he explained the entire process. 90% of the show is just product plugs anyways. this is america guys... EVERYTHING you watch on tv is scripted.

I am a big fan of your show. I have a 1972 Cutlas Oldsmobile I would love to get overhauled. Me and my wife are getting married next year in April 2010. I would love to have the car ready by April but I don't see that happening. I thought I give you a try being on your  show. I am registered.
